BD² Seeks Additional Clinic Sites for Multidisciplinary Initiative to Advance Understanding of Bipolar Disorder

WASHINGTON, DC — Breakthrough Discoveries for thriving with Bipolar Disorder (BD²) today announced its third call for applications for clinical sites to join the BD² Integrated Network. The BD² Integrated Network currently spans 11 leading clinical institutions across the United States and Canada. It uniquely combines a traditional longitudinal cohort study of participants designed to generate in-depth phenotypes of bipolar disorder over time, and a learning health network aimed to iteratively improve care outcomes for people with bipolar disorder.

In March 2026, the BD² Integrated Network released the first dataset from the Integrated Network, combining clinical, biological, neuroimaging, and real-world behavioral data from 615 participants across the network’s initial six sites, forming the most comprehensive multimodal dataset ever created for a psychiatric condition. The BD² Integrated Network is now expanding to include more clinic sites, with the plan to collect more longitudinal data and drive improvements in care for people with bipolar disorder.

This request for applications (RFA) seeks eligible organizations to establish new Integrated Network clinic sites. Proposals will be accepted from any United States (including U.S. territories), Canada, or United Kingdom-based public or private-sector organization — including non-profit and for-profit organizations — that provides clinical care for people with bipolar disorder. Applicants can request up to $2.35 million each over five years. Submissions are due January 15, 2027, with awardees notified in May 2027 and an expected start date of June 2027.

New clinic sites will contribute to both components of the BD² Integrated Network, including the Longitudinal Cohort Study and the Learning Health Network. BD² is seeking team-oriented investigators committed to its vision of building adaptive, networked approaches to mental health care and research. Interested organizations are encouraged to apply before the January 15, 2027 deadline.
