RFA Opportunities

The Discovery Research program supports an innovative and collaborative group of researchers working together to improve our understanding of the biological mechanisms that underlie bipolar disorder. For this funding cycle, we especially encourage applications that address the cellular and molecular mechanisms of mood-state switching; biological mechanisms by which manic or depressive episodes are induced by external risk factors; or using experimental pharmacology to test causality of a molecular or circuit-level mechanism underlying mood-state switching.

The Discovery Research program aims to delineate the etiology and biological mechanisms of bipolar disorder, allowing the development of effective interventions. We fund multidisciplinary teams of scientists and clinicians who generate new hypotheses and drive innovation in the exploration of causal mechanisms of bipolar disorder with an eye toward novel treatments.

The Discovery Research program aims to delineate the causal mechanisms of bipolar disorder. The network of interdisciplinary researchers strategically advance our understanding of bipolar disorder and accelerate the development of effective interventions. Funded teams share resources, data, and progress with other teams in the network throughout the funding period.
